Incorporated in 1892, General Electric is one of the oldest, largest, and most respected companies in the world. General Electric consists of more than 36 businesses operating in over 100 countries around the globe, and employs 340,000 people worldwide.
In 1999 Jack Welch issued a company wide directive to all GE product factories in which he mandated that every group would be interactive by the end of the year. To paraphrase Mr. Welch, if you weren't interested in taking GE interactive you'd best look for a new company.
As part of this iniative, GE Financial Assurance and GE Auto Insurance moved to offer their complex assortmment of products dynamic web presences. Additionally, Jack Welch himself moved to connect with employees more directly through "eBriefs," an interactive component offered over the company's global intranet.
The GEAI site and eBriefs system were originally developed for iXL. While there, principal Rick Tilghman led or was integrally involved with all the aformentioned projects.
